The name Butterfield and Sweet Corn have always gone together.  I guess the 1st Butterfield to sell corn at a farmers market was my grandfather back in 1925.  He would plant acres of sweet corn then pull it by hand all day, hook up to a horse and wagon, travel down 9mile hill to the Farmers Market in Cincinnati, and sell the corn to merchants, or vendors all night.

My grandfather passed his knowledge raising sweet corn on to my father, and in 1980 my dad started The Butterfield Market here in Oxford.  During corn season he would pull a 10’X 20’ shed under a big tree on the farm, and that was his market.  He enjoyed visiting with customers almost as much as selling his produce to them!

Then 2004 I decided to open our present market- our motto comes from my dad enjoying visits with customers. “Enter as strangers leave as friends!”  It is our hope our customers enjoy their visit as well as our produce.

In 2006 we opened our greenhouse, with the highest quality of bedding plants, shrubs, trees, and dozens of hanging baskets.

We hope you will come out and say “hello” see our fresh produce, visit our greenhouse.  Enter as strangers leave as friends.
